Airbus Industrie began as a
consortium of European aviation firms in 1967 when British, French and
German governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the
first Airbus airliner the Airbus A300. Today Airbus and Boeing dominate
the Worlds airliner production, the largest airliner in production for
many decades was the "Jumbo-Jet" Boeing 747 airliner but now the new Airbus
A380, due to enter service in 2007 is even bigger and is already referred
to as the "Superjumbo". The Airbus A320 is a twin engined, single aisle
airliner seating 180 passengers, the aircraft first flew on the 22nd
February
1987.
